Santa Muerte is one of the beings that got me interested in occultism. I have a few botanicas is my town. There was a particular one I'd walk by. It had dozens of Santa Muerte statues through the glass. Who is she? Was she an indigenous goddess? Is she a creation of 20th century Mexican culture? Was she a person?

In my opinion she has connections to the aztec goddess of the underworld Mictecacihuatl. You can also see similarities between her and other underworld goddesses like persephone. At least I do I dont know about anybody else.
