When I do concentration meditation I do it eyes closed.

The feeling of breath in the tip of my nose is my favorite object.

If I used a visual object I would do it eyes open, of course.
The breath on the tip of the nose what benefits does it have

The benefit is that it is a concentration-object that works very well for me (as opposed to various others that I have tried : mantras, visualizations, other sensations, etc). And by works well I mean that it is relatively easy and has relatively minimal bad side-effects.

Thank you for the response what kind of side effects might have?

A mental object, visualization or whatever, gets me stuck in my head. AUM mantra makes me weird, zombie, monotone voice, crazy dreams. Visual object requires eyes open, which leads to dry itchy eyes and worse. An object that's too complex (ex : the feeling, sound and thought of breath all at the same time) goes nowhere and gives me bad dreams.

I know a guy who runs a cult. He's got his disciples doing concentration meditation with a visualization of his face as the object. Those guys are crazy.

AUM meditation is good or bad?
I hear good things. it ain't for me though.

a monk once told me that it's a mantra for people who do the solitary cultivation thing. living in a cave or whatever.
